I have shared this story so many times with friends, family, and groups of women. However, I still get chills everytime I speak of the time God proved that He cares about us, even in the most trivial of situations.
I'll never forget the feeling that came over me when I realized that I had written a hot check to a local grocery store. I was so afraid, so terrified. I couldn't believe that I had such an oversight with our finances and wasn't sure how I was going to tell my husband.
As I walked into the living room, I had tears in my eyes as I explained our situation and told John there just wasn't the money in the bank to cover the check. I was convinced I was going to be put on one of those "Don't Take Checks From..." lists and surely, some huge alarm would go off every time I entered that store again.
I'll always remember how undestanding my husband was in this situation. He hugged me and said it would be okay and that we were just going to trust the Lord to provide the money.
"What?" I had asked. "Let's just get the money from Mom and Dad. They have it and will gladly help us out of this situation."
"No." My husband was not moving on this. "Let's pray about it and just wait on God."
I couldn't believe what he was saying...Had he lost his mind? Surely, God was not just going to take care of this overnight...I mean, this was only $50. I was sure God had bigger and better things to do that handle this small oversight in our finances.
But that night as I was soaking in the tub, I remember hearing God's still, small voice saying, "It'll be okay. I will make it alright."
We went to sleep that night knowing that in the next couple of days the check would go through and we would be out more money than we could afford because of overdraft fees and other checks that would be going through. We did not tell anyone of our situation because we were really trying to believe that God would meet us in our time of need.
The next day, while I was running errands with my mom, my cell phone rang.
"Andi," my husband's shaky voice said over phone. "You are not going to believe what I just found in our mailbox."
"What," I asked, assuming it was another bill that we couldn't afford.
"A card with $50 inside!"
At that moment, I remembered that still, small voice and realized God had totally taken care of us in our situation. Fifty dollars was the exact amount of money we needed to cover the hot check that I had written.
"Well, what does the card say...who is it from? What does the return address say?"
"It doesn't have a return address. It was obviously just put in our mailbox by someone. The only thing it says is...Your Cup Runneth Over."
I was amazed. God met us in our time of need because John believed that He would. He didn't waiver in his faith but instead stood firm in believing that God would take care of us. He didn't second guess or even try to come up with an alternate plan but simply believed.
Do you believe that God still works miraculously? Do you believe that He will do supernatural things in your life or do you chalk things like this up to coincidince or luck?
I'm praying today that God will cause your cup to run over. Give God the chance to do something big in your life. Trust Him in a situation that you having a hard time not controlling yourself, whether it be your marriage, parenting, finances, or your career.
Give it to Him and watch as He causes YOUR CUP TO RUNNETH OVER!!!
"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." Psalm 23:5
