Something from Nothing

I love this time of year. Plants begin to bloom, we can leave our windows open, and the kids can play outside until evening. But more than any of that, I love the way that spring is such a wonderful representation of what Christ has done for us.

Let me explain...

Last week when I came home from work, I noticed our crepe myrtles on the side of our home did not look very good. In fact, they looked dead. They were dried out and there was not a bloom to be seen on either of them.

I don't know much about crepe myrtles, but I do know that it doesn't require much to keep them alive. I know this because despite our lack of attention and care, these plants have been faithful in coming back each and every year. However, this year, I was beginning to worry.

Then, over the weekend, our area received a very refreshing rain. It rained and rained and rained some more. We were beginning to wonder if we were going to need a boat and paddles to get to the grocery store. It rained that hard!

Yesterday morning, when I went outside, I looked at the crepe myrtles again. They didn't even look like the same plants! The rain had given the plants exactly what they needed to become the beautiful plants that they were created to be. They were so much more alive than they had been just a couple of days before. I was amazed at how the rain had caused our plants to become something from nothing.

What a wonderful illustration of what Jesus does for us when He comes into our lives! He takes our nothing and makes it something - something amazing, something beautiful. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Just as the rain made our crepe myrtles new, Jesus causes us to be new creations in Him.

Ask God to reveal Himself to you in a new and fresh way like a spring rain. Give Him the opportunity to make you a new creation and then watch in amazement as He allows your life to bloom into the beautiful life that He has created.

Something to Think About:

Do you still cling to anything from your "old" life?
Do you feel like a new creation or do you need a refreshing rain from God?
Are you preventing your life from being all that it can be by clinging to your old life?
What can you do to bloom into the new creation that God has called you to be?

Words of Worth:

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2nd Corinthians 5:17

"That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day." 2nd Corinthians 4:16

"He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name."
Psalm 23:3
