Sometimes I wonder...Is it really worth it? Is it worth this insanity? The kids are screaming, dinner's burning, my husband's complaining and everything in me wants to cry out, "I CAN'T DO THIS!!!" And sometimes I do.
But so often in that moment, in that moment of pure chaos, God gives me a gentle reminder that it will be worth it for those of us that trust in the Lord. It will be worth the late nights, the early mornings, the crazy fights, the chaotic households, and yes, even the painful times in our lives.
You see, God's word promises us that eternity will be worth all that we go through here on Earth. Colossians 3:2 says, "Let Heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on Earth."
How often do we lay awake all night worried about something we said or did that day and how we are going to handle it tomorrow? If you're like me, I do that more often than I'd like to admit. And more often than not, the situation that I play out in my mind never takes place.
Now think about this...How often do you lay in bed at night and think about the day that you will meet your Savior face to face? How often do you let Heaven fill your thoughts? God tells us that we can count on eternity. It is something that WILL be a reality one day unlike the crazy situations that we spend our time thinking about day after day, night after night.
Our lives here on Earth will end one day. We will stand before our Savior and oh, how I long to here the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." THAT will make my life worth every minute. To know that my King is pleased will be worth all of the difficulties, trials, and chaos in my life.
Think about these things...
It will be worth all of the late nights you spent rocking your children when they come to you late at night as adolescents because they know you care.
It will be worth all of those lunches you packed each and every day when your children are strong and healthy adults because of you.
It will be worth that VERY difficult apology you give your husband when he sends you flowers next week for no reason.
It will be worth all of those meals you cooked for those in need when you realize that you are the reason that they decided to seek Jesus.
It will be worth all of those long days you spent cleaning house when your daughter grows up to be the wife God has called her to be because of your example.
and finally,
It will be worth all of those prayers you prayed every day and night when your children grow up to be adults that love Jesus with all of their hearts.
So, live your lives knowing that IT WILL BE WORTH IT. We do have something to look forward to. Tonight as you lay in bed, let Heaven fill your thoughts and know that the day we meet our Savior will make our lives WORTH IT ALL!!
