I love this time of year. Plants begin to bloom, we can leave our windows open, and the kids can play outside until evening. But more than any of that, I love the way that spring is such a wonderful representation of what Christ has done for us.
Let me explain...
Last week when I came home from work, I noticed our crepe myrtles on the side of our home did not look very good. In fact, they looked dead. They were dried out and there was not a bloom to be seen on either of them.
I don't know much about crepe myrtles, but I do know that it doesn't require much to keep them alive. I know this because despite our lack of attention and care, these plants have been faithful in coming back each and every year. However, this year, I was beginning to worry.
Then, over the weekend, our area received a very refreshing rain. It rained and rained and rained some more. We were beginning to wonder if we were going to need a boat and paddles to get to the grocery store. It rained that hard!
Yesterday morning, when I went outside, I looked at the crepe myrtles again. They didn't even look like the same plants! The rain had given the plants exactly what they needed to become the beautiful plants that they were created to be. They were so much more alive than they had been just a couple of days before. I was amazed at how the rain had caused our plants to become something from nothing.
What a wonderful illustration of what Jesus does for us when He comes into our lives! He takes our nothing and makes it something - something amazing, something beautiful. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Just as the rain made our crepe myrtles new, Jesus causes us to be new creations in Him.
Ask God to reveal Himself to you in a new and fresh way like a spring rain. Give Him the opportunity to make you a new creation and then watch in amazement as He allows your life to bloom into the beautiful life that He has created.
Something to Think About:
Do you still cling to anything from your "old" life?
Do you feel like a new creation or do you need a refreshing rain from God?
Are you preventing your life from being all that it can be by clinging to your old life?
What can you do to bloom into the new creation that God has called you to be?
Words of Worth:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2nd Corinthians 5:17
"That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day." 2nd Corinthians 4:16
"He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name."

Call On God!
My husband always gives me a hard time because I talk so often on the telephone. I love calling up my friends, seeing how their day has gone, and share about how crazy things have been in my life.
There is nothing like having a friend give you advice, listen to your worries, or just tell you that everything is going to be okay. Sometimes I feel better when I hang up just because I was able to "talk" about it and get it off of my chest.
I often wonder why I don't treat God as one of my "phone" friends. Why don't I talk to him when I am worried, stressed, or confused?
1 Peter 3:12 says "The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers."
There are several benefits to calling on God:
1) His line is NEVER busy.
2) He will never put you on hold and forget about you.
3) You won't have to pay a long distance bill.
4) He won't have to let you go because one of His children just stuck a rock up their nose.
and...
5) He will never STOP listening even when you feel like you have gone on and on and on...
God wants us to talk to Him ALL DAY LONG - not just as night or in the morning. He longs for us to have a relationship with him and a relationship means that we are always communicating and sharing.
God will be there when you call on Him. He will be an ever present help any time that we need Him. But just like your friends, you have to call on Him in order to communicate with Him. The relationship will not work if He is ALWAYS the one calling and you never answer or return His calls.
Think about that today when you get ready to call a friend to vent or share something important in your life. Share it with God first and let Him put your mind at ease, make you feel better, or give you the encouragement that you need.
Something to think about:
How many times do you call on God each day?
Do you only call on Him when you need something or do you worship and communicate with Him all day long?
Do you ever ignore God when He is calling you?
Do you put God on hold so that you can deal with other things in your life?
Words of Worth:
"If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven." 2nd Chronicles 7:14
"We can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask Him for anything in line with His will." 1 John 5:14
"The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers." 1 Peter 3:12

Your Cup Runneth Over...
I have shared this story so many times with friends, family, and groups of women. However, I still get chills everytime I speak of the time God proved that He cares about us, even in the most trivial of situations.
I'll never forget the feeling that came over me when I realized that I had written a hot check to a local grocery store. I was so afraid, so terrified. I couldn't believe that I had such an oversight with our finances and wasn't sure how I was going to tell my husband.
As I walked into the living room, I had tears in my eyes as I explained our situation and told John there just wasn't the money in the bank to cover the check. I was convinced I was going to be put on one of those "Don't Take Checks From..." lists and surely, some huge alarm would go off every time I entered that store again.
I'll always remember how undestanding my husband was in this situation. He hugged me and said it would be okay and that we were just going to trust the Lord to provide the money.
"What?" I had asked. "Let's just get the money from Mom and Dad. They have it and will gladly help us out of this situation."
"No." My husband was not moving on this. "Let's pray about it and just wait on God."
I couldn't believe what he was saying...Had he lost his mind? Surely, God was not just going to take care of this overnight...I mean, this was only $50. I was sure God had bigger and better things to do that handle this small oversight in our finances.
But that night as I was soaking in the tub, I remember hearing God's still, small voice saying, "It'll be okay. I will make it alright."
We went to sleep that night knowing that in the next couple of days the check would go through and we would be out more money than we could afford because of overdraft fees and other checks that would be going through. We did not tell anyone of our situation because we were really trying to believe that God would meet us in our time of need.
The next day, while I was running errands with my mom, my cell phone rang.
"Andi," my husband's shaky voice said over phone. "You are not going to believe what I just found in our mailbox."
"What," I asked, assuming it was another bill that we couldn't afford.
"A card with $50 inside!"
At that moment, I remembered that still, small voice and realized God had totally taken care of us in our situation. Fifty dollars was the exact amount of money we needed to cover the hot check that I had written.
"Well, what does the card say...who is it from? What does the return address say?"
"It doesn't have a return address. It was obviously just put in our mailbox by someone. The only thing it says is...Your Cup Runneth Over."
I was amazed. God met us in our time of need because John believed that He would. He didn't waiver in his faith but instead stood firm in believing that God would take care of us. He didn't second guess or even try to come up with an alternate plan but simply believed.
Do you believe that God still works miraculously? Do you believe that He will do supernatural things in your life or do you chalk things like this up to coincidince or luck?
I'm praying today that God will cause your cup to run over. Give God the chance to do something big in your life. Trust Him in a situation that you having a hard time not controlling yourself, whether it be your marriage, parenting, finances, or your career.
Give it to Him and watch as He causes YOUR CUP TO RUNNETH OVER!!!

Mommy, Are You Going to Die?
One night I was up late cleaning house. As I walked by the boys' room, I heard our oldest son whimpering in his bed. As I came a little closer to his bed, I realized he was actually crying very hard.
I sat down beside his bed and put my arm around his shaking little body. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"Mommy, are you going to die?"
Trying to be funny, I said, "Not tonight." The way he was crying, I was beginning to wonder if he knew something I didn't.
He was not amused and was visibly very upset.
"Mommy, what will I do without you? Who will take care of me? How will we get to school? Daddy doesn't know how to do what you do."
At this point, I was crying right along with him. I hugged his little neck and answered him in the best way possible.
"Sweetheart," I said. "One day, Jesus is going to call me home to be with Him. I will be very sad to leave you and our family but I will also be very happy to be with Jesus."
"Will He be waiting for you?" he asked.
I went on to explain that while I love being his mommy and love being here on Earth, my ultimate goal is to be with Jesus in Heaven. "Yes, Jesus will be waiting for mommy with open arms just as He will be waiting for you when you get to Heaven."
After our talk, he wiped his little eyes and gave me a big smile.
As I lay in bed that night I wondered, was I totally honest with my son? Was I really as excited as I had portrayed about Heaven? Everything in me knew that I should be but would I really give everything up here on Earth just to be with my Savior?
Think about that for a minute. Think about that day when Jesus calls you home. Will you go into Heaven looking forward to what's ahead or looking behind at what you are leaving?
I want to love Jesus so much that I RUN into His arms when He calls me home. I want to long to be with Him so badly that I think about it day and night.
2nd Corinthians 5:6 says, "Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord."
Ask Him today to help you realize what Earthly things you put before Him. Ask Him to put Heaven in your heart and help you understand that eternity with Him will be more than we could ever imagine here on Earth.

Doctor's Visit
What a day! Our little angel had her four month checkup today. I thought I would be Supermom and take all three of our little darlings with me. I mean, really, how bad could it be? Well, I'm here to tell you, it was B-A-D, bad!!!
Upon arriving at the appointment, my 5 year old and 3 year old decided to duke it out over a Gameboy game, which neither of them really wanted once the dispute was settled. My 3 year old had an "accident" in the waiting room and Supermom had no pants for him to change into and to top things off, we were put in a room the size of a cardboard box, in which we spent 2 1/2 hours!!! Really, 2 1/2 hours!!!
It was just one of those days. I found myself thinking, "How much more of this can I take? How much longer can we wait?" Complaining, complaining, complaining...
The nurse came in, finally, with the shots for our youngest and one shot for our three year old. I was so nervous because shots are usually daddy's duty; I just can't seem to handle it. But even in something so small, so trivial, God revealed His heart...
You see, while both of my children were receiving their shots, they were crying and screaming and it was terribly painful. They did not know it was coming, it came out of no where and suddenly they were in pain and wanted to be held. All they knew was that someone had hurt them for no reason and they needed their mommy.
As soon as the injections were over, I held both of them and just gave them all the love I had in me. It tore me up inside to watch them go through such a painful experience but I knew that in the end, it would be worth it. I knew that the shots would be helpful to them in the long run.
Don't you know that that is how God feels when we have to go through painful times in our lives? It must tear Him up to watch us go through the things that we must endure but He knows that it will only make us stronger. And when it is over, He will hold in His arms and give us all the love He can give.
As we walked out of that office, I looked at all of my kids and I thanked God for the lesson that He taught me today. It may hurt in the moment and it may come out of no where, but there is a reason and there is a God that is waiting to hold us when it is all over!!!

Slow Down!!!
It was a beautiful day in July and I was going to visit my boyfriend, John. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was cruising along, radio turned up, windows down, just loving life and living it in full speed.
As I was driving at a rather high speed through this residential neighborhood, I noticed a man working in his yard. As I got closer, he began waving. I thought to myself, "What a nice man, he has such friendly smile." I waved and kept driving full speed headed for John's house.
As I drove closer, the man continued to wave, only his waves were becoming a little more dramatic. But being a teenager and totally self-absorbed, I decided he must just really like me or my car and was just being really friendly. So I waved back again and thought, "Wow, he is a really friendly guy."
About this time his waving got frantic and, "WHAM!!!" I hit a basketball goal that was laying in the middle of the road head on.
I felt so stupid. The man was not waving to be friendly but instead, waving to warn me to slow down or stop because I was headed for an obstacle up ahead.
Do you ever wonder if God must feel like the man in the yard that is waving frantically for us to slow down? He sees the obstacles but we are so busy looking around, listening to the world, and focusing on where we are going, that we totally miss His will for our lives.
I can think of so many times that God has told me to stop, slow down, or just be cautious but because I am on a mission, I ignore his warnings. I sort of wave I as I fly by and acknowledge that He is there but I continue on my own little endeavor. However, every time I choose this path, I hit the obstacle head on and do more damage than I ever imagined.
Deuteronomy 5:32 says "You must obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following His instructions in every detail." This means when He says stop, we should stop. When He says slow down, we should slow down. When He says wait, we should wait. And when He says go, we should go.
Ask God today if there are any areas of your life that are in disobedience with His will. Ask Him if you are going full speed ahead in an area in which he would like for you to slow down. Listen for His answer and then be obedient in your actions.
God loves us and wants the best for us. His ways are perfect and if we are obedient, He will make our lives all that they are meant to be for His glory!!!

Worth It All
Sometimes I wonder...Is it really worth it? Is it worth this insanity? The kids are screaming, dinner's burning, my husband's complaining and everything in me wants to cry out, "I CAN'T DO THIS!!!" And sometimes I do.
But so often in that moment, in that moment of pure chaos, God gives me a gentle reminder that it will be worth it for those of us that trust in the Lord. It will be worth the late nights, the early mornings, the crazy fights, the chaotic households, and yes, even the painful times in our lives.
You see, God's word promises us that eternity will be worth all that we go through here on Earth. Colossians 3:2 says, "Let Heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on Earth."
How often do we lay awake all night worried about something we said or did that day and how we are going to handle it tomorrow? If you're like me, I do that more often than I'd like to admit. And more often than not, the situation that I play out in my mind never takes place.
Now think about this...How often do you lay in bed at night and think about the day that you will meet your Savior face to face? How often do you let Heaven fill your thoughts? God tells us that we can count on eternity. It is something that WILL be a reality one day unlike the crazy situations that we spend our time thinking about day after day, night after night.
Our lives here on Earth will end one day. We will stand before our Savior and oh, how I long to here the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." THAT will make my life worth every minute. To know that my King is pleased will be worth all of the difficulties, trials, and chaos in my life.
Think about these things...
It will be worth all of the late nights you spent rocking your children when they come to you late at night as adolescents because they know you care.
It will be worth all of those lunches you packed each and every day when your children are strong and healthy adults because of you.
It will be worth that VERY difficult apology you give your husband when he sends you flowers next week for no reason.
It will be worth all of those meals you cooked for those in need when you realize that you are the reason that they decided to seek Jesus.
It will be worth all of those long days you spent cleaning house when your daughter grows up to be the wife God has called her to be because of your example.
and finally,
It will be worth all of those prayers you prayed every day and night when your children grow up to be adults that love Jesus with all of their hearts.
So, live your lives knowing that IT WILL BE WORTH IT. We do have something to look forward to. Tonight as you lay in bed, let Heaven fill your thoughts and know that the day we meet our Savior will make our lives WORTH IT ALL!!

So, live your lives knowing that IT WILL BE WORTH IT. We do have something to look forward to. Tonight as you lay in bed, let Heaven fill your thoughts and know that the day we meet our Savior will make our lives WORTH IT ALL!!
